The role

Damen Naval is at the forefront of revolutionizing the maritime industry, and we are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Autonomy Specialist to join our team. As a key player in the development, implementation, and enhancement of advanced autonomous systems for naval surface ships, you will have the chance to shape the future of maritime technology.

As Specialist Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships, you will work closely with our team of experts to push the boundaries of innovation in the maritime sector. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and implementing autonomous systems for naval surface ships, contributing to the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of our projects. The role is based at our experimentation location in Vlissingen, with the flexibility of partially working from our Schiedam office.

Key accountabilities

As Specialist Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships, you will:

  • Spearhead full-scale autonomous vessel development.
  • Contribute to automation architecture and autonomy integration.
  • Contribute to simulated and experimental autonomy test campaigns.
  • Drive sensor selection and integration initiatives.
  • Configure and install sensors to enhance system capabilities.

Skills & experience

To excel as the Specialist Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Master degree in a relevant field, such as robotics, autonomous systems, shipbuilding, or a similar discipline.
  • Proficiency in ROS or ROS2, displaying essential background knowledge for this role.
  • A proven track record in designing, developing, and implementing autonomous systems.
  • A passion for innovation, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to address complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent references antecedents because a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.
  • Permanent EU citizenship combined with an EU work visa are both required for our employees given the military nature of projects.
