Extended Reality (xR) Artist (Project Based)

The role

For this role Damen Naval is looking for an Extended Reality (xR) Artist who can start on short notice on a temporary basis. As Extended Reality (xR) Artist you will be working with other artists, game designers and game developers in a scrum team building mind-blowing immersive environments for xR. Whilst our programmers are good at their job, their programmer art is not well developed. This is where you come in. We need a 3D ninja (preferably with a black belt in Blender) with solid 2D skills to help beautify our virtual ships.

As Extended Reality (xR) Artist you do not need to start from scratch because we use existing detailed 3D CAD models of the vessel from our engineers. Just optimize the mesh, mangle the UVs, and slap some texture dirt on the models and you are done. But sometimes the models are not there, and you will have to prove your worth by using only a photograph (or a scribble on a napkin if you are unlucky) to model a piece of equipment or weapon system. Are you up to that?

Skills & experience

As Extended Reality Artist (Project Based) you need to have:

• Vocational education degree (MBO-4) in the field of preferably 3D design or game art or gained by experience the same competencies and skills.
• Experience with modern 3D content creation tools (Blender, Maya, Blender, 3dsMax, C4D or Blender).
• Experience with modern 2D content creation tools (Affinity Designer, Gimp, Inkscape, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Affinity and experience with hard surface modelling and texturing.
• Good command of the English language both written and verbal as some team members do not speak Dutch.
• Willing to learn Blender and Affinity Designer.
• Prove your skills by bringing or showing an impressive portfolio.
• Excellent references antecedents because a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship combined with an EU work visa are both required for our employees given the military nature of projects.
